Stoke Manor Antiques, Vintage items and Curiosities came into being when we bought our property and needed to clear out items found in outbuildings.
The Northern term 'Where there's muck there's brass' is true! We found old fireplaces, marble, antique glassware and pottery - too precious to throw away.
My interest in antiques and curios started with my first job in an 'Olde Curiosity Shop' c. 40 years ago. I've loved antiques and collecting Sotheby's catalogues ever since. I simply can't fathom why someone would buy badly built modern furniture when they can often pay much less for a beautiful, sturdy, solid piece that is over 100 years old and will likely last 100 years more. It's a way of saving resources/recycling/helping the environment and creates family heirlooms to pass on to children/grandchildren - such items tend to increase in value rather than depreciate and, let's face it, they are often totally beautiful and can look outstanding in even the most modern of homes.
Training/experience as a Materials/Forensic Chemist (and researcher) has provided me with contacts and tools to verify many of the objects I buy and sell.

CERTIFICATED UNMOUNTED DIAMOND, marquise cut, weighing 0.70 carats, with accompanying ALGT report number 25030264. This is a lovely and deceptive diamond.
